A pride of Lions enjoyed National Signing Day yesterday. The Leon Lions had 10 players sign football commitments from Florida State University to Alcorn State University to Clark Atlanta University and beyond.

The following players signed their letters of intent:

Brandon Byrd – Ellsworth Community College

Ryan Feely – Florida State University (preferred walk on)

Jacob Jones – Southeastern University

George Leland – Warner University

Kris Lingo – Alcorn State University

Davell London – Warner University

Barry Otieno – Clark Atlanta University

Mario Scott – Warner University

Shaja Thompson – Warner University

Jarvis Williams – Clark Atlanta University

Leon Lion’s Recruitment Coordinator Doug Waddell, Sr., attributes the players’ success to their hard work and willingness to reach toward their potential on and off the field. Waddell also acknowledged the impact of Head Coach Tim Cokely.

“Coach Cokely has built a positive culture in our program and put a real emphasis on total player development and recruitment opportunities. Each following year, we anticipate getting

stronger, working harder, and reaping the rewards of our efforts You’ll see it in our players’ and in our team’s success,” said Waddell. “I feel like we’ve done our best to prepare these

young men for the rigors of college ball. We are looking forward to following their careers at their respective schools.”

2014 Dr Bass Largemouth Open Golf Tournament Will Be Held September 8.

This year’s Dr. Bass Large Mouth Open Golf Tournament will be September 8, 2014. There will be a morning flight at 8 am and an afternoon flight at 1:30 pm. The tournament will combine a great day on the Golden Eagle Golf Club’s greens along with the satisfaction of helping fund many of Big Bend Hospice’s most needed patient and family and support programs.For more information visit the Big Bend Hospice website.


3rd Annual Veterans Helping Veterans Golf Tournament!

AMVETS Post 1776 will be holding its’ 3rd annual “Veterans Helping Veterans” golf tournament on September 15, 2014 @ 9:00 a.m (registration @ 8:00 a.m) at the “Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club.”

Proceeds to benefit the “Florida Veterans Foundation” and other local veteran programs.
